Reviews of Slater's Sussex on Amazon:
"Excellent survey
of the artist's life and work"
"Perfect"
"A beautifully produced book about a
forgotten artist now being rediscovered"
"I particularly love the full page
colour reproductions of Slater's
prints. Seeing them all together gives
a wonderful feel for his work and of
the period in which he created them.
James Trollope has penned a
fascinating biography of Eric Slater
and also describes the Japanese
technique he used. Slater's Sussex is
an interesting read and I know I will
pick it up to see the prints again and
again." - Theatrical
Eastbourne
"The first study of a British
colour woodcut artist since Malcolm
Salaman's William Giles as
far back as 1928 ... The book
includes a walk in Slater country,
an explanation of the technique he
used, it is generously illustrated
in colour ... Slater has been
fortunate to have caught the eye of
James Trollope." - Modern
Printmakers
"This volume adds weight to Slater
as an artist, rediscovering his
worth. The story of his life makes
his prints somehow more complete."

Short's Sussex - Prints & Sketches by
Sir Frank Short RA
Short's Sussex
Prints & Sketches by Sir Frank Short RA
A companion volume to Slater’s Sussex,
this new book features more than 40 images by Sir
Frank Short, one of the 20th century’s most
influential printmakers. Short’s Sussex
is the same length (80 pages) as the Slater book
and available now at £12 plus £2.80 postage and
packing.
Like Eric Slater, Sir
Frank Short (1857-1945) spent much of
his later life in Seaford. After retiring in 1924
from the Royal College of Art, where he was
Professor of Engraving, he produced a series of
prints, watercolours and pastels of Seaford,
Newhaven and the Cuckmere Valley. Short’s Sussex
also includes some of his earlier images of Rye,
Winchelsea and Bosham.
A 40 page booklet with 23 colour
illustrations is now available, price £6.50
plus £2 P&P.
Arthur Rigden Read [1879-1955] was the artist who
taught Eric Slater the Japanese woodcut technique,
and the booklet (size A5) coincides with the exhibition
at the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery
featuring both these prize winning printmakers.
